War is nothing but a matrix of many battles fought in many sectors within the theatre. When it comes to recording of military history, there are two extremes- one that is written at the macro level i.e. at theatre level and beyond and another one that is recorded in the war diaries of individual units and subunits. While the former may give a holistic picture, the latter tends to be a bit too much in detail and may not appeal to every reader. In between the two, lies that fascinating zone where recorded history can be both crisp and comprehensive at the same time.

This work subscribes to the idea that while campaigns need to be read in the correct context, it is equally important to have finer details that tend to go missing unless recording is done at the optimum level.

This work goes as a salute to all those historians and writers who have written about 1947-48 conflict in detail and whose works have enabled us to try our hands on such a scope.
